Frequently Asked Questions

How effective is citronella at repelling mosquitoes?

Citronella is a naturally derived insect repellent that works by masking the scents that attract mosquitoes. It’s most effective in smaller, enclosed outdoor spaces with limited wind. For best results, place the lantern close to your seating area.

How long does the candle actually last?

This Coleman citronella candle is rated for 70+ hours of burn time, making it suitable for multiple camping weekends or extended patio use before needing replacement.

Is it safe to use in a tent?

No — never burn candles inside a tent. This lantern is designed for open-air outdoor use only: campsites, patios, decks, and outdoor dining areas.

Can this be used for regular ambiance without the bug-repelling benefit?

Absolutely. The warm flickering glow makes it a great mood lantern for evening gatherings, even when bugs aren’t a concern. The citronella scent is pleasant and not overpowering.

Is it refillable or a one-time use candle?

This is a pre-filled citronella candle lantern. Once the wax is depleted after 70+ hours, the candle insert can be replaced or recycled and the lantern reused depending on the model design.
